OOC: Short Story - Venice Diplomacy for a funeral

This short story is related to a Phoenix group event and more of a quicky. It’s only mirrored to the blog, the original post lives on the PG forums.

19th of June 2014, Venice, Council chambers 10:34 CEST

The raven haired women stepped through the portal and headed towards Arturos office. It did not even take half the way until she was stopped by a guard and asked if she was armed and if he could see her clearance to visit the council chambers. With a sigh Rovena handed him both and told him that she was unarmed today but her clearance level would allow for even heavy weapons like a rocket-launcher.

He took his time to check the papers and nodded. “You are due for a routine body search for unauthorized weapons, would you please follow me?” Rovena missed a beat. “What? Are you serious?”

“I repeat, follow me for a full body search. If you don’t comply I am authorized to strip you of all clearances, including those for the Phoenix Group.” The shock was clearly written in her face.

Behind them walked a woman with chainsaw and a two handed hammer that looked like it came from hell, the green Mohican shaking to a beat from her headphones. The German looked to her, then the to the guard and nodded. “Fine I’ll follow.”

He lead the way to one of the councils holding cells. On their way Rovena inquired “What’s your name and rank?” With a lot pride the young man answered “Consultant Tom Johnson.” She made a mental note to retaliate later.

In the holding cell a woman waited for the Director. She released the guard with a nod and wave off. “Excuse the circumstances Dr. Treublatt but a body search is a easy way to get the surveillance turned off.” After a deep sigh of relief a smile showed on Rovena’s face. “Ms. Ramirez, good call. How is the situation”.

“Actually quite bad. The Phoenix group is doing ok, I personally expected more from your people but you are good enough to raise envy in all three societies. It is getting more and more difficult for me to keep the support for you up.”

A cough escaped Rovena’s throat. “Support? You mean less slowing us down?” Ramirez gave her a look but nodded. “Yes, at the moment that is all I can do. Why are you here?”

The German closed her eyes and shook her head “I am here to request a few more guards in Kaidan tomorrow to secure a funeral at the tree. I did not plan to ask you, I wanted to go to the old man directly. He owes me more than one favor and this time I was going to collect one.”

Ramirez listened closely and nodded. “he won’t be able to help you in time. He has been compromised. I have no proof but trust me, something is wrong with him.” Rovena gave her a look this time. “Are you serious?” Ramirez nodded again, she was a honest woman and the director could not find a sign of a lie on her. Either the truth or she believes the wrong thing Rovena thought but let it go for now.

“Okay, thanks for the warning but I guess I will have to give it a try anyway. We are too stretched thin to do the funeral and guard duty at once. We have to do both though. We need to get the dead off our minds.” Rovena sounded quite concerned about the situation and Ramirez caught the expression.

“No, let me work on him I’ll contact you next week, I will need a favor from you, but I promise you ten more CoV guards for the time of the funeral.”

Rovena gave her a suspicious look but getting her support in under thirty minutes sold her on the deal. “Fine, just keep it reasonable, yes?”

Ramizes smirked and nodded. “You know me.” Then she guided Rovena out of the holding cell.
